M Shed Bristol

M Shed Bristol

This is the only Bristol based museum dedicated to telling the true and incredible history of the city of Bristol. Located on the historic dockside, Bristol’s flagship museum has been designed to retain the unique character of the former 1950s transit shed.

Three galleries reveal the fascinating story of the city and its unique place in the world. From prehistoric times to the present day, explore the history of Bristol through the objects and stories of the people who made the city what it is today.

One of the main purposes or missions of the is great museum is to: “inspire people to enjoy and learn from the city’s collections and the stories they tell about Bristol and the world.”

It does this by offering a wide range of services including:

  • a dynamic exhibition programme
  • access to the collections
  • substantial outreach work with the local community
  • a comprehensive service to schools

Expected to attract over 800,000 visitors in 2012, it represents a core part of Bristol’s overall cultural infrastructure and facilities, catering to all local people and those who visit the city.
